EXTENDED LEVELS STRATEGIES & HINTS

  • Here's how to get off to a good start. Recruit some humanoid monsters (you can't recruit any other kind), take everything in their inventory, dismiss them, then offer to purchase something from them, then kill them. They will drop whatever they were offering to trade even though you emptied their inventory.
  • None of the monsters you recruit throughout the game will be better than the characters you start with.
  • Offer to trade with monsters, then kill them. They will drop whatever they were offering to trade. The item they offer to trade is usually better than the item they would've dropped otherwise. If you don't offer to trade with them before you kill them they will usually drop food or arrows. However, if you first offer to trade with them they will usually drop armour, weapons, or potions. Using this method it is possible to finish the starting level with all your characters wearing Mithril Armour, Rune Shields, Battle Gloves, and good weapons.
  • If you're running low on food it's possible to buy more than one piece of food from monsters.
  • Food will replenish your food bar much more in the Extended Levels than in the original Bloodwych.
  • Level 15 characters can acquire Ancient spells. When you choose Ancient spells you will be forced to replace an existing class of spells. It's best to replace the Moon spells since they are least useful.
  • The Rune Sword is more powerful than the Demon Blade. The Demon Blade is more powerful than the Ogre's Axe. The Ogre's Axe is more powerful than the Fleshbane.
  • It is possible to acquire a Demon Blade early in the Extended Levels by offering to trade with monsters.
  • Disrupt is a very powerful spell. Often times it is possible to kill monsters by casting Disrupt with 1SP.
  • Cast a Missile or Fireball to destroy those annoying Inferno traps. Use Dispell or Nullify to clear the Firepaths they leave behind.
  • If you need to Dispell some Mindrocks, and the square you're standing in prevents spellcasting, try stepping a few squares back and cast Nullify from a distance instead.
  • You'll need a Common key on Chaos Tower 5 and Moon Tower 4 (although there's nothing behind the door on Moon Tower 4).
  • Don't kill monsters while they're standing on pits. If a monster dies while standing on a pit in an area which prevents spellcasting you won't be able to retrieve the loot because you won't be able to cast Levitate.

BUGS

  • If you recruit creatures with keys, then dismiss and kill them, they won't drop their keys which are necessary to progress through the game. If you recruit creatures with keys be sure to grab them from their inventory before you dismiss them.
  • If a character is shooting arrows, and you switch to his inventory, the number of arrows shown won't decrease. I haven't confirmed if this is the case with the original Bloodwych.
